The Solar Guys was founded by John and Marilyn Teel in 2001 in response to the rapid demand for quality, innovative natural daylighting products, and Solatube was the obvious choice.  John holds a state of Florida Roofer's License and has held a state of Florida General Contractor's license for nearly twenty years.  The Teels have been building beautiful Florida homes in the Ocala-Gainesville area since 1997.  Since 2001 John and Marilyn Teel have grown The Solar Guys from a small home based company to largest Solatube dealer in the United States.  Their territory includes Alachua, Marion, Citrus, Lake and Sumter counties.

In May 2010 The Solar Guys acquired the Orlando market as part of their service area.  This includes Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties.  The result of this growth was the formation of The Solar Guys- Ocala Division, LLC and The Solar Guys-Orlando Division, LLC.
